Originally from New York City, Barbara Borck-Hart is one of the most renowned American artists working in the Northeast. Her work is part of the permanent collections of a number of major corporations, including Chase Manhattan Bank, General Electric and Manufacturers Hanover Trust Co.
From her studio in Shelton, Connecticut, located in an abandoned factory building, Borck-Hart paints gardens that pulsate with color, creating a vibrant intoxicating mix of sensations. She is particularly captivated by wild, uncultivated gardens that have grown out of control. A visit to Giverny, France, the location of the legendary gardens outside Paris that inspired Claude Monet, served as a defining moment in her career. While traveling abroad, she developed a profound interest in the environment which led to the creation of paintings of landscapes, lush garden series and florals that capture vibrant rows of violet, yellow and pink blossoms.
Borck-Hart is also known for her invigorating oil paintings of Polo matches. She depicts Polo ponies and riders charging across the canvas with raw, sensual force. Her Polo paintings are characterized by bold energy lines that capture the complex dynamic between horse and rider. Borck-Hart's accomplished Polo paintings have been exhibited at the Greenwich Polo Club, the Royal Palm Polo Sports Club and the Museum of Polo Hall of Fame in Lake Worth, Florida and have set the standard for art devoted to this elegant sport.
Borck-Hart grew up surrounded by art. Her mother, also a talented artist, painted murals on the walls of the family home. Borck-Hart received her first set of paints at the age of three and has been painting ever since. She graduated from NYU with a degree in fine art and traveled extensively through Europe, where she found herself captivated by Impressionist paintings. She has taught art at Fairfield University and has worked as a graphics coordinator for Channel 49 in Hartford, CT.
Barbara has been the recipient of numerous awards and grants, most notably from the Stamford Museum and is a member of the Salmagundi Club, the oldest professional art organization in America, located in New York.
Borck-Hart has shown her work in museums and galleries across the United States for more than 22 years. She has bold, fearless style that emphasizes line, color and form and invites the viewer to enter into a world of lush colorful gardens and the electrifying world of Polo matches. ...
